FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Your skin is unique, and understanding your treatment options is an important part of your skincare journey.

Below are answers to some of the most common questions we receive at Complexions by Mia.

Microneedling

Is microneedling safe for sensitive or dry skin?

Microneedling is not recommended for clients experiencing excessive dryness, significant sensitivity, irritation, or a compromised skin barrier.

Because microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries, the skin needs to be in an appropriate condition to tolerate the treatment and recover properly.

If your skin is currently dry, irritated, or sensitized, we may recommend focusing on hydration and barrier support before considering microneedling.

Can microneedling be performed on acne-prone skin?

Yes! Having acne-prone skin does not automatically disqualify you from microneedling.

Microneedling may be appropriate for clients with a history of acne, post-acne scarring, or uneven texture. However, we avoid needling directly over active inflamed, infected, or cystic breakouts.

If you are experiencing significant active acne, we may recommend addressing the breakouts first before beginning a microneedling series.

How do you customize microneedling for melanin-rich skin?

At Complexions by Mia, microneedling is never approached with a one-size-fits-all protocol.

Melanin-rich skin can be more susceptible to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation following excessive inflammation or irritation.

We consider your skin tone, pigmentation history, sensitivity, barrier condition, treatment goals, and previous skin responses when determining whether microneedling is appropriate.

Treatment intensity, technique, and session frequency are individualized to avoid unnecessary trauma while supporting the skin’s natural repair process.

Our goal is to pursue corrective improvements while minimizing avoidable irritation and pigmentation risks.

Facials & Extractions

Do your treatments include extractions?

Yes! Extractions are included in our facial treatments when appropriate for your skin.

We assess congestion, skin sensitivity, and the condition of your barrier before performing extractions. Not every blemish should be extracted, and we will avoid extractions when they may cause unnecessary irritation or damage.

Does BioRePeel include extractions?

Yes! BioRePeel appointments can include extractions when needed and when your skin is suitable.

Because BioRePeel is an exfoliating treatment, we carefully assess how much additional manipulation your skin can tolerate.

Do you offer basic facials?

We specialize in corrective and customized skincare rather than traditional basic facials.

Our services are designed to address specific skin concerns through professional techniques, targeted products, and individualized treatment planning.

We also believe corrective skincare can be relaxing. You can enjoy a comfortable, restorative experience while receiving treatments selected for your skin’s needs.

Will dermaplaning make my peach fuzz grow back thicker?

No! Dermaplaning does not make your facial hair grow back thicker, darker, or faster.

Dermaplaning removes vellus hair, commonly called peach fuzz, at the skin’s surface. It does not change the hair follicle or the biological factors responsible for hair growth.

Because the hair is cut rather than naturally tapered at the tip, it may temporarily feel slightly different as it grows back. However, the actual thickness, color, and growth rate of the hair are not changed by dermaplaning.

Dermaplaning also removes surface dead skin cells, helping the skin feel smoother and allowing makeup to apply more evenly.

Corrective Peels

Do you offer traditional chemical peels?

We do not offer a traditional chemical peel menu.

Instead, we focus on three selected corrective resurfacing treatments:

  • BioRePeel: A professional chemical peel designed to support exfoliation and improve the appearance of uneven texture, congestion, and dullness.
  • Green Sea Peel: A marine-based resurfacing treatment that can involve visible peeling and a more noticeable recovery period.
  • Lazer Pigment Peel: A targeted corrective peel option for selected pigmentation and uneven-tone concerns.

Each treatment has a different approach, and we select the most appropriate option based on your skin condition, concerns, and tolerance.

Will my skin peel after every treatment?
Not necessarily.

Visible peeling depends on the treatment, your skin’s response, and the formulation used. Some clients experience light dryness or flaking, while others may experience more noticeable shedding.

For example, Green Sea Peel may involve visible peeling for approximately 2–5 days, while BioRePeel may produce little or no visible peeling.

Visible peeling is not the only indicator of treatment effectiveness.

Body Treatments

Do you offer treatments for the body?

Yes! Corrective skincare isn’t limited to the face.

At Complexions by Mia, we offer body-focused skincare services, including back treatments, and can address selected concerns such as body acne, congestion, rough texture, and uneven-looking skin tone.

Treatment options depend on the area, your skin condition, and the services currently available.

If you’re interested in a specific body area or concern, contact our team for guidance before booking.
